Well done guys - keep up the good work.
Just to add another variable, there are now Linux Hiface drivers released by a 3rd party & I'm getting reports that they are very stable & working without problems - see here http://www.johnkenny.biz/home-1/announc ... wavailable
BTW, Tony, I think I figured out what the reason for being able to hear those 3 bass notes 47secs into that Shelby track on your system & apparently on nobody else's system. It seems to be got to do with room acoustics & intelligibility. It would appear that your room reverberations at that frequency are under control. There's a nice test for this - See here for more details http://www.whatsbestforum.com/showthrea ... ility-Test
Anyone tried JPlay?

For Digital Audio playback that delivers WHERE the performers are on stage but more importantly WHY they are there.

Did I report elsewhere (can't remember) that with Dariusz's interconnect cables I was able to hear this for the first time, despite the fact I would have sworn BLIND that you were all imagining it before. :)jkeny wrote: BTW, Tony, I think I figured out what the reason for being able to hear those 3 bass notes 47secs into that Shelby track on your system & apparently on nobody else's system. Obviously you don't want to get too hung up on these sorts of tests because they never tell the full story, but it certainly gives a very good indication as to the resolving power of what's upstream.

apologies for dropping in late...........but what Shelby track are you talking about? I HAVE to see if I can hear that base!Diapason wrote:Did I report elsewhere (can't remember) that with Dariusz's interconnect cables I was able to hear this for the first time, despite the fact I would have sworn BLIND that you were all imagining it before. :)jkeny wrote: BTW, Tony, I think I figured out what the reason for being able to hear those 3 bass notes 47secs into that Shelby track on your system & apparently on nobody else's system. Re: Anyone tried JPlay?
Yes, both the resolving power of the playback system & the intelligibility of the room (reverberation time at various frequencies) is what this reveals. Don't forget the room :)Diapason wrote:Did I report elsewhere (can't remember) that with Dariusz's interconnect cables I was able to hear this for the first time, despite the fact I would have sworn BLIND that you were all imagining it before. :)jkeny wrote: BTW, Tony, I think I figured out what the reason for being able to hear those 3 bass notes 47secs into that Shelby track on your system & apparently on nobody else's system. Dreaded bass bit on the shelby lynne track is 47secs in. John identified 3 quick bass notes on that section. Heard it alright but haven't gone back to it and the room furniture and amp and speakers have now changed. When I get my degree in reverb I will check out the room thread posted by John.
BTW I am finding windows 8 pro slow. Please god it is not another vista.
Also JPLAY bombs out on full hibernation. It works on turbocore. Had a look awhile ago on the jplay forum and there was some discussion around this with beta versions of windows 8. Hopefully Marcin will get that sorted.
Sound quality is still great. Haven't lived with it for long enough to decide if it is better than before as I have introduced too many changes over the last few weeks.

I'm using W8 Enterprise and the quality is excellent. My set-up will play on FullScale Hibernate ok for maybe up to 1.5 hours and then shut down. I sent a fail log to Josef but we weren't able to fix it. It's completely stable in Turbocore. There's a V4.3a coming out shortly to make some improvements hopefully in this area where some people have been having similar issues. Tony, you should put your experiences on the JPlay forum.

Great to read this - I'll sit tight on me win7 laptop for now. Although I have to try those linux drivers I think.
Do or do not, there is no try
Re: Anyone tried JPlay?
Having a quick listen tonight.Using Oscar petersons we get requests.I think it would sound good on a boom box dropped from a 4 storey building but the sound is sublime with the dac and windows 8. Trying to do some a/b's with the cyrus cd8se and believe that the jkdac sounds more liquid. Imho the cyrus is a very good cdp and I can happily use it or the dac. Still find the cdp quicker when I want a snappy listen and also being able to skip tracks suits on occasions.
I think the sound is getting as close to vinyl as one would want but no way of checking unless some vinyl loon carts his spinner to my house.
Fran upgrade to windows8 pro costs €29.
Ok Ken will post on jplay sure will need to become a regular if I want discounts. Generally I have been happy to wait until these things get sorted. Kinda assume the difference between full and turbocore is fairly minimal.
