Stax ahoy!

Post by Fran »

hi all,

well, today I made a bit of an investment - I snagged myself a set of Stax SR lambda headphones with a SRD 7 energiser. I'm delighted with them!!

Best of luck with the new purchase Fran and perhaps you could do a review after suitable testing.

I heard a pair of those a long time ago and never forgot the clarity, attack, stereo image and depth. I'm sure you'll be delighted with them. Many happy hours of rediscovering your collection to you!

Thanks guys.

Dunno how valid a review would be - there have been a good few newer models since.

I could certainly do a round up of them compared to normal headphones like sennheisers and akg

Nice one Fran, nice two in fact.
Very much 'shiny objects of desire'.
Vinyl -anything else is data storage.

Thorens TD124 Mk1 + Kuzma Stogi 12"arm, HANA Red, Gold Note PH 10 + PSU. ADI-2 Dac, Lector CDP7, Wyred4Sound pre, Airtight ATM1s, Klipsch Heresy IV, Misc Mains, RCA + XLR ICs, Tellurium Q spkr cable

Yeah, I'm delighted with them. The fella that I bought them from was a nice gent, also with quads and some nice amps and so on. I think he may well end up joining us here.

Barry - I still have yours safe and sound. In fact, I intend using them to do some comparisons.... your headphones on my energiser, mine on yours etc etc. I just need to check that they are all compatible with each other first.

Initial comparisons is that the attack and transient speed on both are similar, but that the bigger lambdas have better tone and warmth.

I'm using a little valve amp to drive them. Its an audio innovations series 300, uses ECL86 valves - so think 12AX7>> EL84 sound, fairly classic.
