This is one of the finest recordings of Paul McCreesh. Based on Monteverdi´s Vespers he assembled from various composers his own Vespro della Beata Vergine. There is some glorious music here, and the performances are super stylish. I´ve always felt that the XVII Century suited him better than the XVIII, and what is he doing these days? Berlioz!!!!

^^ one of the very early recordings I bought when first getting into CM was this one:
which I'm guessing are two of the disks on that 5 disk set? I agree with you that on the whole he is finest in this era, and I remember being particularly intrigued by the way he constructed his programmes to make them as historically plausible as possible. 4 years on and I still have a soft spot for him for this reason, as well as his consistently fine performances.
