Inspiration please.... plinths/outriggers

So to lead off with a system update...

Just picked up a pair of SystemAudio SA1550's which makes me happy...

However due to the vagaries of the previous owners room he was using them as standmounters....!!!!!

He had lost the plinths which he had removed... Now Ivan C reckons he can get replacement from SA very reasonably.... thing is I had thought they'd have threaded holes underneath for some spikes... they don't, just a flat bottom; which on shagpile doth wobble... I have a temporary fix of sitting on some spare marble I had just lying about the place.....

What I fancy are some Kharma style outriggers....!! has anyone retrofitted these or have any inspiration for a solution? I've found one place in the us which sells them but they're a little square?

Anyhoo.... I'm sure I'll have a flash of inspiration but meantime if one of ye us pre-inspired that'd give me more time to listen without thinking about it!!!

I know some have picked up some granite slabs from woodies etc, and used that to support speakers. Probably not best to drill into the actual cabinet bottom I'd say, but glue the new plinths on and then drill those if you need to add spikes etc.

There are probably plinths available out there - although I don't know of any offhand.....

I had a feeling you'd be the first responder Fran!

As far as I can make out the SA plinth was a piece of wood which was screwed to the bottom of the speaker which then has spikes attached to it....

I'll have a look at one in Blackrock and see if a nicer piece of wood would be preferable!

Yeah that's exactly right. Because of their shape they're never the *most* stable speakers in the world anyway, so you might still prefer to go the DIY route.

Yeah that's exactly right. Because of their shape they're never the *most* stable speakers in the world anyway, so you might still prefer to go the DIY route.

True, in fact they are wibbly-wobbly wonders. I have my SA1750s standing with spikes on cork tiles.

Any headstone or monument contractor will cut, drill and polish granite for you Jaybee.
