Must add this to the wish list - am curious - never heard the work.Jose Echenique wrote:I´m very happy you got it Fergus, it´s a truly magnificent recording. Caldara´s genius and musical sophistication are in evidence in every note. And what a treat it is to have Andreas Scholl, Bernarda Fink and María Cristina Kiehr, all in glorious voice. This recording won the Gramophone Award for best baroque vocal recording.fergus wrote:

Quite a bit of Ravel's music going around at the moment. He is not a composer that I know well I must confess but I am trying to rectify that with my own recent purchase....markof wrote:Enjoying this version recentlybombasticDarren wrote:Ravel - Daphnis et Chloe Suite No.2 (Christoph von Dohnanyi, Cleveland Orchestra & Chorus, Teldec)

Re: What are you listening to?
I know that Monteverdi's Madrigals do not exactly excite everyone but if one is so inclined the ensemble La Venexiana do them really very well.

Re: What are you listening to?
Did you know that the founding members of La Venexiana were originally members of Concerto Italiano but they got in trouble with Rinaldo Alessandrini and decided to go their own way?fergus wrote:

No Pepe I did not know that! Do you know what the problem or issue was? I would be curious to know.Jose Echenique wrote: Did you know that the founding members of La Venexiana were originally members of Concerto Italiano but they got in trouble with Rinaldo Alessandrini and decided to go their own way?

Gustav Mahler

Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Georg Solti - conducting.
This is a magnificent performance by the CSO and what a great start to the fifth movement, I love it.
