Some very interesting posts and comments there from both Simon and James. I agree that details matter; they, after all, indicate exactly what the composer wanted. I will definitely revisit the piano version in the light of the latest comments and pieces of information from the two lads, paying particular attention to those relevant details.

thank you everyone for your kind words; I hope you all felt the study was worth while...
of course there is no reason why this can't be added to, as and when you feel like it in the future.

Re: April: Mussorgsky: Pictures At An Exhibition
I was very impressed with the Ravel orchestral version played by the Berlin Philharmonic/von Karajan. Subtlety and power were there in equal measure when called for. There was a nice sense of atmosphere in the performance and it was well paced. It concluded with a very fine Great Gate indeed which was expansive and powerful!
The performance of the original piano version by Berman was quite fine with some lovely interpretations. It is a studio performance and does not have the annoying audience interference of the Richter (which is magnificent I hasten to add!). Berman has a very nice, light touch but he can also be powerful and assertive when called for; a fine performance and comes recommended.

Perhaps Jared is researching all the options, hence his silence!
