Note that Tir Na HiFi does not take any responsibility for transactions arranged or carried out here. It is up to the seller and buyer to check each other out! Please be sensible folks, and if there is something you think is wrong, let a mod know, OK?
To make it as clear as we can, here are some simple guidelines:
a) like any forum, the success of tirnahifi is entirely dependent on discussion. All members are encouraged to participate in discussion of music, hifi, etc.
b) tirnahifi is not designed to be, nor intended to be, a marketplace. Any member who uses the site merely for selling will be looked on suspiciously.
c) those members who choose to sell on the site should be aware that the mods do keep an eye on the stuff for sale, plus the demeanour of the seller. Sometimes we may lock/delete/ban a sales thread on this basis.
d) honesty is paramount in all selling transactions. Commercial sellers who label themselves as such are accepted at the discretion of the moderating team.
e) All ads have to include information about age, price, provenance, etc.
f) THE MODERATING TEAM RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REMOVE ANY ADS AT THEIR DISCRETION.
g) Commercial sellers should approach any of the moderation team in advance of posting. First time commercial posts without moderator contact will be removed.

Sorry, yes of course that's what you meant, and Richard had suggested 24 hours might be needed to get the electrostatic charge "right" again.

Re: Quad ESL 57 speakers
Aim each panel right at you..... so that they are perpendicular to the listening spot. Don't sit too close either, 6-8 ft if you can.
The stands do help, improves the bass depth somewhat, but more than that, they take up less floor space.
I know first impressions and all that, but do you like what you're hearing?

Do or do not, there is no try
Re: Quad ESL 57 speakers
I'm really trying not to form too many opinions at this early stage, not least because I *know* I haven't the right location for them yet. They sound perfectly pleasant, but I've yet to dial in the magic.
Thank you for the positioning advice, Fran. I'm going to playing around for weeks I'd say!

Re: Quad ESL 57 speakers
Have they affected the "crackle/buzz" at all?
Had no idea, never having seen a pair in the flesh, that they were that big... Looks like you'd have to sidle between them to change your cd!

Re: Quad ESL 57 speakers
They're fairly sizeable alright, even more so in such a narrow room as uIe man cave. Cowboy Junkies spinning at the moment, sounding lovely. Think you'd like there actually, Jaybee.

Re: Quad ESL 57 speakers
LOL, I have no idea how you know that, but yes, The Caution Horses. Civil Wars gorgeous too, but have moved briefly to classical now, will finish with some jazz shortly. These were made around the time Miles Davis was recording Kind of Blue. Mad when you think about it.
