Aci, Galatea e Polifemo is an early "serenata" for 3 voices that Handel composed in his earliest trip to Italy. It is very beautiful, so much so that he reused most of the basso arias in his opera Rinaldo, you have an excellent recording of that opera Fergus :-)
As you know, any performance by La Cappella de´Turchini is a gem, and this is no exception, signora Mingardo pours her luscious contralto in every note.
By the way, this is a live recording also available on dvd.

Next week the War Requiem will be 50 years old.
I was born in 1961, so I think this is easily the most important masterpiece composed during my lifetime.
This is also a tribute to the great Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and his immense importance in 20th Century Music.

thank you my friend... I would say I very slightly prefer it to the Harnoncourt, but both are actually excellent. At times I struggle a little with Harnoncourt, but his version of 7LW are for me, one of the finest interpretations of his, which I own.

further, extensive consideration of Haydn's magnificent choral works continues..... this simply isn't as immediate as The Creation, but its treasures have been revealing themselves to me after 10 plus listens of two different versions... superb..

I always found the sonics in this boxset a bit lightweight and lacking a bit of omph when the music required it but on a recent listen to the above I've found a new appreciation for the perfomances.
