it's working perfectly, the whole magic eye thing seems to be a marketing gimmick....

all I could find on the 6E2 is that it acts as a VU meter....

so the Internet may have been wrong!!!

I took out the 6e2 and what I thought were (according to the Internet) 12ax7's...

but the two have 6n1 printed on them... can't see this type on the data sheets...

any ideas? still a match for a 12ax7/ecc83??

I think I may also have just by accident found out what people mean when they say "microphonic" in relation to tubes.....

My setup for listening for the past while has been at my desk... (hence the raft of what are you listening to posts!!)

iMac in the middle, amp on the side, speakers out beyond that....

I just paused iTunes to work on an issue and was tapping my desk with the end of a biro, when I discovered that the tapping was being reproduced in my speakers!

I assume this means my valves are microphonic!!

Just so you know, you occasionally see 6N1P written as 6H1N cos that's what the Russian characters look like. The -EV (or -EB) version is the one that's meant to be less microphonic, as far as I can remember.

I do indeed, but the Π can look like a lower case n in a certain light...

Would the certain light be the dim reflection from the bottle of vodka you've just polished off?
