I've just been reading some fascinating posts on jk's dac and computer audio here, and on building a dedicated audio pc. i've recently been playing around with various flavours of linux and have a preorder for a RasberryPi, a tiny form factor pc using a linux distro and sd card as harddrive, hdmi and usb 2.0 on board. This is so cheap 30 odd euro, credit card size, was wondering what people hought abou its potential maybe in conjunction with jk's dac and a good linux losles player as an hidef source?

The whole place is a complete mess. Can't find anything. Right now I'm eating scrambled eggs, with a comb, from a shoe!
Re: RaspberryPi
My son will be getting one of these he is 10. I think this product will suit programmers or people very interested in tinkering. Probably not for the faint hearted including myself. Hopefully John can come up with something that will allow this to work with a dac. Nice cheap option if he can

Re: RaspberryPi
I know from my radio days that Linux operating systems are generally better and more stable for sound but supporting drivers and software can be patchy (literally). I don't know if that has any bearing at all on the JKDAC but if the Pi could feed the DAC that would be a very attractive, not to mention cheap, little digital system.
Vinyl -anything else is data storage.

Re: RaspberryPi
Yeah, I have one on preorder as well. Looks like a great little device.
As regards the jkdac, as far as I know there aren't any drivers for linux yet........ perhaps in the future though.

Do or do not, there is no try
Re: RaspberryPi
Hopefully, could be a great little system, I think I saw the XBMC distro running on a prototype Raspberry, nice home entertaintment setup anyway failing an imminent jk driver.

Re: RaspberryPi
Maybe if John builds the JKDAC in the future with the new Hiface 2 you will have a great partner for a Linux build.
You could always plead with John :-))
