And for Baroque Violinists:
1. Sigiswald Kuijken (for seniority, he was there at the very beginning).
2. Fabio Biondi.
3. Giuliano Carmignola.
4. Enrico Onofri.
5. Riccardo Minasi.
6. Amandine Beyer.
7. Gunnar Letzbor.
8. Manfredo Kraemer.
9. Thomas Zehetmair (I give him #9 because he´s a hybrid, not 100% of the time Baroque specialist).
10. Viktoria Mullova. (Same thing, Hybrid, and a cute one too.)

Given the massive respect here for Grumiaux I've just popped this into my shopping basket! I'd previously had the Naxos copy....(Nishizaki)

^^ Grumiaux was one of the finest violinists of his generation in a wide range of repertoire... I've not heard that recording, but I'm sure it won't let you down.
Incidentally, I have to support Sean's earlier post on the 3CD Set of LvB Violin Sonatas with Clara Haskil; they are a must for any collection.

Re: Who is your favorite artist: Violin?
Grumiaux made 3 recordings of the Beethoven Violin Concerto, all superb needless to say, but the second one, with the New Philharmonia and Alceo Galliera conducting, is quite simply, the finest recording ever made of that concerto.

Much better than the Davis/Concertgebouw vesion?Jose Echenique wrote:Grumiaux made 3 recordings of the Beethoven Violin Concerto, all superb needless to say, but the second one, with the New Philharmonia and Alceo Galliera conducting, is quite simply, the finest recording ever made of that concerto.

I think so, in this 1967 recording Grumiaux was especially inspired, even by his own high standards.jaybee wrote:Much better than the Davis/Concertgebouw vesion?Jose Echenique wrote:Grumiaux made 3 recordings of the Beethoven Violin Concerto, all superb needless to say, but the second one, with the New Philharmonia and Alceo Galliera conducting, is quite simply, the finest recording ever made of that concerto.
