There's a difference between ECC88 and E88CC but I can't remember what it is - and too lazy to root out the datasheets. Might be max current it can handle or something......

Going back over 30 years to the Radio Operators course, so the memory may be a bit frazzled, but I think that the ECC88 has a maximum operating voltage of 130V and that the E88CC has a maximum operating voltage of 220V. You can replace an ECC88 with an E88CC, but not the other way round.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think that this is the difference.

Yeah, it's something like that, and then of course there's the PCC88 which has higher voltage somewhere or other and can sometimes be usable but you can't be sure yadda yadda. In any case my amps are spec'ed for 6922 (E88CC) but lots of people are successfully using 6DJ8 (ECC88) if the interwebs are to be believed.

Meanwhile, I'm not even sure if I'll hear a difference.

that'll in a direct relationship (possibly exponential) with how much the said tubes cost you......

if they were spares on a soyuz mission, then they'll be naturally cryo treated, gamma irradiated NOS.... you'd probably have to offer the conductor a cuppa, the realism would be that good!

Hello Giant
Thanks for the info re the GE KT88's I would really love to get 2 quads of those babies for my pair of McIntosh 275's but I'm sure the prices are crazy.
As for the valve testing if any of your friends are willing to test for an appropriate fee I'd be more than happy to avail of their services.
