Who is your favorite artist: Violin?

Having just listened to two versions of the same piece of music here,



and



I must say that I unfailingly enjoy any piece played by Manze(regardless of composer- I often find Mozart too frivolous for my tastes but he seems to add weight- is it his style? HM's recording? Period Instruments?

I don't know, but I think he pips Mullova now as my favorite, although I do still have a soft spot for Accardo!

I agree that Manze is excellent! Two other modern violinists that you might want to investigate are Isabelle Faust and the upcoming Amandine Beyer.


Of the older violinists as well as Oistrakh one one also do very well to investigate Grumiaux who had absolutely beautiful intonation.

I agree. I shouild have mentioned Grumiaux and his work with the wonderful Clara Haskil, this is a gorgeous 3 cd set on the Brilliant Classics label and can be purchased for about €10:
