Valve Testing

Post by jonnyone »

Just found a box with a large ammount of valves that I have gathered over the years, trouble is I don't know what condition the valves are in so if anyone knows where I can get them tested it would be most helpful.
There are all types KT88's, ECC83's, ECC81's ECC88's and ECC82's and all different makes Mulllard, Telefunken, RCA,Genalex Gold Lion, Penta Labs, Brimar, Amperex, and Brimar so anyone who knows their valves will know that this collection contains some rare and expensive tubes so it would be great to sort out the dodgy ones.

You could have some gems in there by the sound of things. Wish I could help, but I'll be interested to hear how you get on.

There was a similar thread here a while back - dunno if they found anyone, and I'm not aware of anyone who has a tester. I'd be interested in hearing if you find anyone?

Does Cloney's valve guru Bernard have one?

Ok lads I'll let you know what happens. I was half thinking of buying a valve tester but all testers are pretty old by now and as the voltages concerned are pretty high it may be safer to keep well away!

Didn't know that Cloneys had a valve expert, I may have a job for him.
Thanks for the info.

I don't think he works for them as such, but he comes in once a week or something. Tell us now, will you be selling any of those? ;)

If you're buying one, make sure its calibrated before you pay money.

I better check out the condition of the valves first, then you never know. What type/make are you interested in because I definitely have 4 Telefunken 12AT7's that are working because I took them out of a working amp only a few weeks back.

Well, it'd be E88CCs I'd be after, but I'm afraid this road could lead to madness! Still, keep us posted!!
