Andreas Hammerschmidt was a Bohemian composer born in 1612. His father was a protestant Saxon though, and had to flee Bohemia during the Thirty Years War. He probably was the most notable North German composer between Schütz and Buxtehude, and in fact his music can be seen as a bridge between them.
In this cd we get some instrumental pieces and motets in the mid-XVII Century concertato style. The performances are exquisite, with particularly breathtaking singing from the Knabenchor Hannover.

Dave, is that recording on vinyl? I have a couple of LPs from the Great Performances series including the Szell/CO Mahler 4 and they are superb performances and recordings too.

It's on vinyl yes. A really great performance and the recording sounds magnificent too.
