Another Audio test - need volunteers

Post by jkeny »

I wanted to get the view of as many as I can on whether they can hear a difference between these files. Two of the them are the same file. It's only a short 16 seconds of audio but you will need to play it on a very good system, PC speakers won't do.

For instance, I need to use Jplay & direct USB connection with my best DAC otherwise I don't hear any difference - Foobar does not allow me to hear any difference. Please tell me which two files sound the same & which one is different & what the difference sounds like. Try to be specific about what you hear.

I won't tell you yet what I'm testing but when I have gathered the responses, I will let you know what is behind this. Believe me you will be interested. Could you PM me your results please rather than post them so as not to influence others.

I will post a link tomorrow that you can download the files from!

Oops!
I've changed it to two files now (as I realised it was easy to tell which two files were the same - the two file sizes were identical, duh :)

Anyway, try these links:
FileA.wav
FileB.wav

Ok, I realise my requirements are too broad & not specific enough. What I need listeners to do is focus on the sound of the drum rim hits & try to characterise this difference between the two files.

Thanks Ivor,
You will be contributing to the bleeding edge of audio if you do :)

And I will be publishing my findings in the next couple of days!

I wonder would I be able to hear the difference with headphones and a crap soundcard. Probably not!

Doubt it but give it a try. I tried but no-go. Ahem, it's a good reason for getting a good USB DAC, ahem, cough, cough, splutter!!

It shouldn't do that - I set it to share with everybody. Is anybody else experiencing this?
