I have a few of them too Fergus. Really lively and engaging performances.

I'd agree with you on this one.. I think it's the acoustics of the building as much as anything; this is something that the Tallis Scholars seem to get so right, in chosing small, provincial churches with excellent acoustics, such as Salle in Norfolk... that, their close-mic'ing and the excellent recording quality which Gimell seem to have acquired, give you the impression that not only are you in the same room as them, and they are singing for you personally..
Oh it is definitely the acoustics Jared. They are fine singers and I like the sopranos in particular. I am not adverse to church acoustics; in fact I think that it definitely adds a flavour and a sense of place and atmosphere but it needs to be handled well otherwise the ensemble can sound "lost" which is what sometimes happens with the Westminster Cathedral Choir unfortunately. They are still worth collecting though it has to be said!

Having just finished a 2 CD set of his Concertos and Tone Poems I really must revisit that Blomstedt cycle of Nielsens symphonies which I have unfortunately always found to be a bit of a chore in the later symphonies in particular.

Indeed Jared, Darren, like yourself, is a man of impeccable taste! However, let us not disturb him while he is hard at work on his essay!!

he's far too busy listening out for Cuckoos (and about the right time of year, too!) to be writing any essays..
