A nice set. The Lindsays rarely disappoint in my opinion

I have warmed to Radio 3's Schubert week incidentally. They have played plenty of Schubert's little known choral works and I have taken to them greatly. I have my eye on a Sawallsich box set that collects many of the pieces. I aim to purchase it on pay day (tomorrow!)

I have come across that set in Tower and wondered if I should get it but I was put off by by fact that the performances were under the direction of Wolfgang Sawallisch. I would love to get a collection of his sacred music, it certainly went down well here on last Saturday.

I think I may have mentioned, I have a gentlemen, Chris Dingle, who brings a group here for the Walsingham pilgrimage, every Easter, who is a reviewer for the BBC Music Magazine and Doctor of French & 20th Century music at the Birmingham Conservatoire...

well, he arrived a couple of hours ago, and gave me his review copy as a present..

Image

if anyone's interested, he says it's a genuine 5 Star recording...

Darren, I also own this... the performances and recording are certainly fine enough, although I'm not sure whether SQs were Hummel's most compelling medium. I'd be interested in what you think... (incidentally, I think his choral works are sublime)...
