If you are any way handy making your own cables is really easy and very good value. I have made several tnt audio designs and they perform very well. I certainly wouldn't spend huge money on this at the entry level;-)

Hello again and thanks to everybody for the advice. Unfortunately the system was gone already here the link http://bit.ly/yEQCvj

Some of you advised to go to Cloney in Blackrock, I'd love to but I'm based in Galway so I'd have to plan a proper trip out. I'll keep my ears to the ground and see what's out there.

In the meanwhile does anyone know where to find a HiFi beginner's guide? Is there one in the forum? I'd like to build a vinyl collection but also use CDs and listen to music I've on my computer so I'd like to find some amp that can work well with analog and digital.
Also is anyone familiar with cambridge audio amps? I've seen a few around for a decent enough price. Like the Cambridge Audio A1 Mk3.

I kind of realise that I'm walking right into a very expensive addiction, I just won't tell my girlfriend :)

You might like to browse the Cloney Audio site:

http://www.cloneyaudio.com/sound.shtml

and have a look at their
One Box systems,
Compact system,
Hi Fi separates and
Turntables

and the ex-demo stuff and come back and ask loads of questions:

Hey Cavez,

Good luck with the browsing but one word of warning, be really careful about what you pay on places like adverts.ie...

There seems to be a madness permeating the asking prices on there....!!! (from cameras to audio...!!)

If you spot something you fancy, ask here about prices....

and give cloney a bell, they regularly have bits and bobs that aren't listed on the site around the beginner/bedroom/second system price range... and will keep you posted if something suitable does come in to stock...!! also they really do care about you, and will nurture a relationship.... maybe the only such company in any field in Dublin??

enjoy!!
Brass Bands are all very well in their place -
outdoors and several miles away....
