Interesting direction for vinyl

Stereophile has a few recent posting that are interesting for vinyl. For those not familiar with the stores I guess this would be equivalent to Debenhams, Arnotts for something like that.

In the past I would sometimes wander into Urban Outfitters in Dundrum to check out the CDs and vinyl (they don't stock clothes to fit fully grown men) and they always had a small but interesting selection. Their CD section had eclectic compilations which were great when I did a radio show. The vinyl was far more mainstream but worth flicking through. Not cheap though, not cheap at all. As I remember it the turntables etc were closer to toys than serious hifi - probably ideal for someone wanting to dip their toes in the warm analogue water.

Didn't even know there was an urban outfitter in Ireland. To be honest I've never seen/been in one period. While they may be pure entry level (though I think the Project is a very good starter table) I thought it was interesting that vinyl/turntables are showing up in such general shops.

I have a teenage daughter and so I know that there are at least two of them in Dublin: one in Dumdum Shopping Centre and the second one is in Temple Bar.

The hipsters have to do something to distance themselves from the iPod-wielding masses. And no matter what way you look at it, 12" of vinyl spinning around on a platter is cool.

What I saw in Dundrum was more like the Irish Times "readers offer" retro one-box yoke with built in speakers. I threw up a little.

A large chunk of the return to vinyl in the US has been because "kids" are looking for an alternative to their parents CDs and MP3s. Irony is one of my favourite things.

Geez Ivor, you have just stated the bloody obvious and I couldn't see it: my "kids" will not use my kit at all, they prefer the ipod, youtube et al, needless to say I never use these to listen to music. You are on to something there young man.
