Of the many "theme" recitals that La Bartoli has recorded I´m particularly fond of 2: the rare Gluck arias album and the Salieri. These 2 albums besides offering gorgeous singing are also valuable for the music itself, most of it never recorded before.

I really like the Ashkenazy recording though. I also think the pieces are extremely satisfying technically and melodically...

Oh yes Fergus, granted that he is no Mozart. But Antonio Salieri was a very fine composer on his own and he most certainly should be investigated. The Bartoli disc would be a wonderful place to start.
