^^ you know folks, there are moments like this, when I wonder why I don't just throw in the towel and build up a large collection consisting entirely of Renaissance & Early Music... I'm sure Simon at least would have sympathies...

(but then, I'd miss Brahms too much... )

this really is a super set. out of choice I would go for this over the Du Pre/ Barenboim one, although I must say that I'm glad to have them both, because they are quite different. this set demonstrates a delicate fluency and an understanding between soloists which really would be hard to beat. the Du Pre set is slightly hampered by poorer recording, some of which is live with attendant coughing fits from the audience. that aside, she is characteristically forceful in her style, at times dynamic and at others bordering on abrasive... still however, a characterful set of performances.
Interesting post and duly noted!

Fergus... I don't mind telling you, when I go for a few weeks without, I really start to miss it... I can't explain why or how. It's a bit like that nagging feeling for a decent bar of chocolate you get; somehow you've got to schedule the purchase of some into your morning.. well every time I put on some Tallis Scholars (& Victoria especially!), I always get the same feeling as if your body aches to hear every harmonic syllable.

I can only see that in time, I will collect every disk the TS have ever recorded... it's the only logical outcome.

^^ I'm nowhere near as adventurous as you Jared, but I do sometimes feel the same way about Mozart....
