My Bach Cantata odyssey begins with erm... Christmas Cantatas?

BWV 63,64,121 & 133 for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd days of Xmas... oh well, what can you expect from a man who was playing 'Christ on the Mount of Olives' and 'Seven Last Words' on Christmas Day?

I promise not to post this rather garish image too often... so if I don't post in here, I think it will be same to assume that over the next month, I will be listening to something from this boxset!

anyway, so far... so wonderful!

The very best of luck with that Jared....I sincerely hope that you enjoy it. Even if you do not post that awful image do post regarding your listening progress as I would very much like to read about it.

Those versions were all studio recordings and at a later stage in your odyssey it would be worth your while investing in even one of the later SDG CDs with versions of some of the same Cantatas, which were all live....it makes for fascinating comparisons.

Consider it an artists impression of Fergus when he's listening to Chopin.

I meant to listen in, but we had visitors, I was particularly interested in taking an offsite storage copy of the Brahms piece as I do not have a copy of it in my collection, I'm sorry I missed it.

I promise I won't post the picture again... (it really is terrible, isn't it?)

I might be listening to all this religious music with little to no respect for the sanctity of the church calendar, but I'm really having a wonderful time with it all, and can see that in years to come, when my appreciation and understanding has matured, that I will be following in Fergus' footsteps, in digging out the appropriate canata/ motet/ oratorio for the occasion... in a far more reverend fashion... ;-)
