Not quite as "high end" as that Moon gear, but I found a really good stopgap:
Last night I was messing about with a new cell phone.
Mmmm. A radio on board ! I hooked it up to my amp with a Monster Y interconnect that I got for the kids' iPods [in their bedrooms, [not allowed near Dad's stuff, yet] and a little jack plug adapter.
It's a Nokia E71 and the tuner is pretty good.
Marvellous is how I'd describe the sound. Considering that the primary function of the device is to distract you from all things relaxing.
A nice easy sound, not too wide a sound stage but good detail and timbre too.
Some front to back spaciousness and great focus on individual instruments and vocals.
I was listening to John Creedon on RTE 1 [FM] so the range of music was quite diverse.
Recently I'd been toying with whether I'd buy an old tuner or a cassette deck.
I have a black sack brimming over with cassettes bought from 70's to mid 90's so I opted for the Nak CR2E that Andy put up for sale here.
Great decision.
Then last night I got a tuner too !
Not bad.
Cheers,
Gerry
