Re: What are you listening to?
^^ quite right Fergus... I have her Brahms disks which are stunning... just like last night's Oboe, you can never have enough clarinet, either... ;-)
now, I don't know whether you own this disk Fergus... but you really ought at some stage...
at its height, it's achingly beautiful...

These are lovely, gentle songs that are beautifully sung and which lilt along, ably assisted by the accompaniment of Parsons.

Re: What are you listening to?
Franz Joseph Haydn
String Quartets Opus 33 No. 5, 3 & 2
Quatuor Mosaïques
Gorgeous music-making.

Re: What are you listening to?
I really liked this especially the Elgar.
Re: What are you listening to?
Dmitri Shostakovich
String Quartet No. 1, 3 & 12
Borodin Quartet
The First Quartet was written in 1938 and the Twelfth in 1968, it is fascinating to listen to the enormous evolution in Shostakovich's development as a composer. The First is rather simple, almost Haydnesque, dare I say. The Third is joyous and the Twelfth is a real modern piece and is a real tour de force, all of it is hugely enjoyable music. The Borodin Quartet are marvellous too, now should I get their Beethoven cycle that is sitting in my basket I wonder?
