This is a very interesting recording in that it sounds quite different from other recordings that I have of Palestrina’s work. Reading from the liner notes the recording is “based on a careful study of original sources and seeks to restore earlier performance traditions.” It certainly sounds like it and it is quite different and thoroughly enjoyable.

I've been enjoying this immensely tonight. Frank Martin's mighty Golgotha, his very personal response to the great Bach Passions. Musically, it reminds me of Debussy and Poulenc. Deeply committed performances from all concerned, this is an extraordinarily moving experience and is very highly recommended.

I was at the NCH tonight because the NSO were performing Mahler's Sixth Symphony it was magnificent, what an orchestra and what a performance, I am stunned. Unfortunately, the enormous orchestra almost outnumbered the audience.
Oh yes, they also performed a charming little ditty by Bruch that the wonderful David Oistrakh immortalised (in my memory anyway) many years ago.

Hi Seán, didn't see you there. Whose idea was putting it on Tuesday evening? I had to get a colleague to cover my class so I could go: I might be paying that back for a while!

I've never seen much point in the Bruch, but M6 was worth all the trouble!

I would imagine that there is a lot of pressure on the orchestra to perform as often as possible, it is a strange one though. And yes, the Bruch got in the way, delightful violinst though. I was looking out for you. I was in seat 20 in row N.
The Fourth next year will be accompanied by Porkofiev's wonderful Third Piano Concerto, now that's something to look forward to, probably bring my niece too.
