i simply said to use older fusewire consumer unit nothing wrong with that- we have one in our house
-that new type consumer units have a rcd safety device.
and im not a registered electrician

I'd imagine that it would be hard to get some of the older type units with a fuseholder - although you might be able to get a small one that would do a single run maybe? Btu you're nearly going back to the 70s there!! Might well be that it sounds better though.

FWIW, I think whatever about the main panel, it would be hard to go wrong with putting in over specced cable for the main hifi run. I regret that I didn't do it myself (although I have 2 separate runs of 2.5T&E to the hifi). But some 6sq would have been better. I've heard lots of people talking about sinking an new second earth very close to the hifi, and just wiring directly to it. I think thats also small money and can't do any harm. Might have a go myself!
