Ah Johnny! Nice to have a response, no matter how little... As regards Jimi's next direction, God only knows. He seemed to be heading in a Jazz direction, where the continuous improvisation would have suited him down to the ground. Would he have gone acoustic? He'd probably have an acoustic Blues album out now called "Neptune Blues" or maybe something like "Blues from The Third Stone From The Sun" :-) As he sang on the Band of Gypsies album "Who Knows"......BTW how are you getting on with Winterland? What's the sound like on the system? I haven't heard it yet through my own system - no CD player! On headphones it sounds staggeringly good through the iTouch. Really!JAW wrote:Wow! Missed that completely!!! Wonder what he'd be doing if he was still with us? Would he have gone into jazz or jazz rock? Would he be mentoring young musicians? Would he have gone acoustic? Any ideas?
Listening to it now again. I'm gravitating towards Disc 2 more than the others, particularly for Hey Joe and Red House. The sound is excellent, I'm always wary of old live recordings, as the sound can be be flat or all over the place, for example King Crimson's Earthbound, which the liner notes to recent CD reissues of the album state that it was "captured live on an Ampex stereo cassette fed from a Kelsey Morris custom built mixer ... in the rain from the back of a Volkswagen truck." And it sounds like it!!!cybot wrote:Ah Johnny! Nice to have a response, no matter how little... As regards Jimi's next direction, God only knows. LOL :-) Enjoyed that.....Absolutely thrilled you like it and you're right about the later stuff where he went in a kind of Soul/Funk direction. Look what happened Deep Purple when they did the same. Ritchie upped and left :-))))JAW wrote:Listening to it now again. I'm gravitating towards Disc 2 more than the others, particularly for Hey Joe and Red House. But I'm impressed with this, it's a powerful testimony to how good he was. I never got the later stuff, but I love this earlier stuff!
