Din to RCA interconnect - If it's broke, don't fix it.

Post by Marcus »

My old Chord Solid MK1 has finally come apart at the DIN end. Rather than the cables decoupling, two pins broke off on the soldered side. Although I found the sound more revealing than the original Naim/Chrysalis cable, I would rather find a replacement - the Solid is a nuisance as it is so inflexible.

So, has anyone a recommendation for a DIN > 2xRCA (in that direction) interconnect. err..without stretching to a Naim Hi-Line that is. I would prefer a factory terminated set if possible, unless someone has a better suggestion.

My contenders so far (as I already know these cables)
- Chord Anthem
- Nordost Red Dawn
- Another possibility is to add a DIN to one of my VDH Hybrids if possible - I love these cables!

I have also heard good things about AR Sound cables but never heard any.

I appreciate that this is as personal as any other piece of equipment, but I just want to make sure I am not missing any outstanding cables which can be purchased as a DIN option.

Many thanks

Marcus
I have a switch in my apartment but it doesn't do anything. Every once in a while, I turn it on and off. One day I got a call from a woman in Austria... She said "Cut it out will you!"

I have the Naim Din connectors in stock from a previous job, I can make you
up a set of cables if you like, they will be as good if not better than the branded
cables you named in your post.

I can use silver plated copper or 99.99% pure silver for the conductors.

Let me know if you are interersted.

Regards.

Thanks very much Andy, much appreciated. I am looking at the various AR Sounds cables, but might come back to you, I'll pm if so.

Being a vulture (:)) - how much would you like for the broken Solid interconnect? I have RCA-RCA solid that I like, so would like to try from from my Naim CD to pre.

Thanks, Richard

Hi Richard,
Actually, I will be keeping the cables, I spoke to Chord and they will re-terminate with new DIN for a reasonable price, so I am sending them over. Like you, I like the sound of these cables, I find them very open and spacious.
When I put the original Naim IC back on the player, while I get a replacement, it sounded very flat by comparison. Mind you, I don't have a Naim system throughout, I know that the original cables work very well with Naim end to end.

And to think I used to be an absolute cable sceptic!

Thanks,
Marcus

Thanks Marcus - understand, and best approach :)

Richard

PS: I only have a Naim CD, and use my solid between Pre and power.
