Yes mike there are some very good DIY options. First port of call should be either the vsps300 from rjm audio or else the pass pearl - of which there is a new version due very soon.
Probably cost in the region of 200 to build any of those....

I'm finalising a pre amp design at the moment but without phono (horror, I know but I've no record player!) Have a look at the svp by Allen Wright at Vacuum State. I was very tempted to build it but it's way more than I need at the moment.
Re: DIY Components - Furutech
Chris - are you a friend of Stephen by any chance? You came to a couple of the DIY meets at my place?

No. Not me I'm afraid. But It's good to know I'm not the only nut around here. I rediscovered diy electronics after a long absence. I'm a recovering musician and sound engineer but have been away from all that long enough to start enjoying music again!

Ah, I was just wondering...
From time to time a few of us DIYers meet up to display our wares, if you want I can send you notification next time aroud?
Its very informal, normally in my place near Naas, and generally good crack.

Fran,
That would be great. How often do you meet? Anyone know if I can get high voltage transformers in Ireland? Or anyone get any experience of winding transfomers?

Sorry for taking your thread off topic Andy!
Chris: we meet once or twice a year, usually when we have a few things built!
There's a crowd in antrim that wind transformers but the cheapest place I could find some valve power trannies was from a crowd in Italy - ill have a look for them...
