What are you listening to?
Re: What are you listening to?
Very much enjoying this so far. Listening to Argerich and Rostropovich playing a Sonata for Cello and Piano at the moment, Zimerman playing the first Piano Concerto earlier. Lovely stuff.

Re: What are you listening to?
There are two harpsichord concertos, two organ concertos and two fortepiano concertos on this disc. They are delightfully charming works that are well performed but the enjoyment is somewhat compromised by the poor recordings of the harpsichord concertos which are quite recessed and thus overwhelmed by the orchestra; still quite an enjoyable recital however.

Standout performances for me were the Polovtsian dances (LSO+Chorus/Solti) and Symphony No. 2 (LSO/Martinon).

Re: What are you listening to?
all in all, this is one of the very few pieces of Brahms which I struggle to get enthused over... that said, this is still meant to be the benchmark performance for this piece... all these years later..fergus wrote:That is a very enjoyable listen!DaveF wrote:

These were really good performances but the Krommer works were particularly delightful.
