Choosing a tablet is working out to be more difficult than I expected!

Yesterday I spent some time in Blanchardstown Shopping Centre looking at tablets and hoping to learn something about them:

PC World, most of the demo models did not work, the sales assistants said the batteries were flat! I am interested in the Advent Vega 10" tablet @ €250 but did not see it working. And the anti-theft alarms kept going off which was very irritating.

Currys, fewer models than PC World, again most of the demo models did not work [flat batteries??]. The demo Apple iPad did work but it is very expensive.

Peats, no working demo models but I got a printout of the Prestigo PMP7100C Android tablet which looks interesting @ €269.

It appears that I will have to decide purely on spec sheets and dodgy internet videos. Most of the shop staff that I asked yesterday appeared to know very little about these things. At least one staff member ought to be trained up to demo tablets if the shop is stocking and hoping to sell them. Also I find it hard to understand why the shops do not have working demo models with wi-fi internet [working] and a few apps installed. These things effectively sell themselves if customers can use them for a few minutes.

The Advent Vega 10" tablet is the favourite (for the time being at least).
It's OK, if there is no bread I will eat cake.

Welcome to Ireland! This is one of the major nuisances when shopping in 'tis-a-here country: Either nothing is working and no-one knows how to demo (or even what they have in the shop!!!) or else they are so up their own arses that you don't "qualify" for a demo... I often wonder who trains these people?? Sorry for off topic rant... As you were ;)

Tom I would take Fran up on his generous offer even for a short period of time just to see if you like the way that it works. My daughter is also in the process of getting one and I have been in a similar situation with PC World and Currys. Claus is right in his rant above and I refuse to shop in PC World any more. I went into my local Harvey Normans and I found the staff helpful and informed. I was only interested in the Apple version but I did notice that they did have others so you might like to check them out as well.

I remember a classic scenario a few months back in Currys:

Me: Have you got X in stock?

Him: No

Me: When will it be coming in?

Him : Don't know. Our deliveries only come in on a Thursday...

Me : Sorry?

Him: We don't know until Thursday what does come in...

Me : Oh?!?!?

Me : Turns round and walks out of shop then screams with laughter. No wonder the country's
in the state blah blah blah blah.....

'nuff said :-)))))
