^^ somehow, I think Fischer-Dieskau should be listened to on vinyl, Dave.. and that's a mightly handsome set by the looks of it!
Critically panned from what I can gather, but it cost me £1...
admittedly, the Symphony does feel a little flat in places, but its not too bad... not that I'm a Rachmaninov expert, you understand!
What are you listening to?
Re: What are you listening to?
it has been rather a long time, I must admit...

Re: What are you listening to?
I am about to embark on my next chapter of listening. As Fergus & Sean will confirm, I tend to listen to new music in groups of CDs, playing them all around half a dozen times through before leaving them and returning to them at a later date (hoping that some oif it at least will have sunk in!).
Anyway, over the past 6 months, I appear to have collected a rather eclectic, miscellaneous assortment of choral and vocal works which for convenience sake, I have banded together to form the next batch. As you will see, there's practically no common theme,. but there we go:
I'm sure you'll see what I mean about having no theme... but this bunch will keep me occupied for the next few weeks..

Re: What are you listening to?
It sounded great Fergus. Now normally I have to be in the mood to listen to this sort of classical music but I ended up listening to the first 2 Lps from this set.fergus wrote:Did it sound good Dave?DaveF wrote:Disc 1 of this mammoth 12 piece vinyl set.

Re: What are you listening to?
My problem with it is simply the ridiculous levels of familiarity we have with it... it all sounds like film music now, which just does poor old Gustav a real disservice... anyway, there is no doubt in my mind that THIS is just about the finest version there is, bar none... it's scintillating.fergus wrote: That is a work that I am always unsure of for some reason Jared....how was that performance?

That is one of the most played CDs in my collection Jared. There is some stunning singing on it. Listen to the Four Last Songs, especially Beim Schlafengehen, and weep!!
Good luck with the rest of the works!
