What are you listening to?
Re: What are you listening to?
not a favourite performance of the Mendelssohn PC tbh; they feel a little rushed and the sound transfer isn't great.. Perahia or Shelley are more preferable here. The interesting thing about this recording is the 2nd disk, which contains much of M's piano music from his youth, which rarely gets performed.

This was over an hour of pure magic; beautiful and wonderful music that was magnificently played!

you really don't do my Amazon Wish List any good at all, Fergus... it's groaning under the weight of future possibilities, as it is!fergus wrote:

LOL....decisions and priorities....it is a very good one though, I have to be honest! I am only slowly chipping away at my own Wish List Jared despite already having bought more so far this year that all of last year with four months still to go!!!Jared wrote:you really don't do my Amazon Wish List any good at all, Fergus... it's groaning under the weight of future possibilities, as it is!fergus wrote:

Devienne - Flute Concertos Nos. 7 & 8....
These are charming, delightful and spirited works that are very well played by Galway and the London Mozart Players. Galway also plays a Cimarosa double concerto with his wife.

Re: What are you listening to?
This is a late sixteenth century comedy that is presented in a series of madrigal scenes. I really like it and I find it unusual; there is some lovely music in it and it is well performed although it would not be to everyone’s taste.

Re: What are you listening to?
I thought that this was a fine recording and that the Kodalys attacked the music but without being excessively assertive; there was certainly no lack of commitment and the playing was up to their normally high standards. It was a very enjoyable listen.

Re: What are you listening to?
Fergus, would this sound a little like Monteverdi's books of Madrigals?fergus wrote:This is a late sixteenth century comedy that is presented in a series of madrigal scenes.
