I love Vänskä's work. The Bernstein, Vänskä and Blomstedt cycles are very good indeed. I have all of HvK's EMI cycle....I wish I hadn't bothered, it was the folly of youth.

Probably my favorite of Shostakovich's symphonies. I love the march build up in the first movement, kinda reminds me of Ravel's Bolero but way better. Haitink does seem to excel with Shostakovich. I dont rate his Mahler much though.

The tempi were perhaps a bit too fast for my liking but I still enjoyed the performance a lot.

I like Norrington's Beethoven Dave....I have his cycle on CD.
