Symphony No.1

A bold and assertive performance. I enjoyed it a quite a lot. Looking forward to the rest of this set.

Franz Schubert
String Quartet No. 14, 'Death and the Maiden'
String Quartet No. 13, 'Rosamunde'
String Quartet No. 15
String Quartet No. 12, 'Quartettsatz'

Quartetto Italiano

I just can't leave this set alone, these four quartets are stunning and Death and the Maiden is sublime, I have listened to No. 14 several times every day since I got the set. I love these performances.

Charles-Marie Widor's only Mass, written around 1890 for a choir of Baritone voices and a mixed choir, accompanied by two organs. Here transcribed for mixed choir with a single organ, the magnificant Cavaille-Coll organ at St Sulpice. Highly Recommended.

This is a lovely collection of 15th century English Christmas and Marian carols and other medieval songs.

A great performance here by Karajan and the BPO.

von Karajan definitely had the measure of Strauss' music imho!

This performance is big and bold; there is nothing subtle about it. That is not a criticism just a fact so it depends on what you way you like your Requiems (Requia?), or this one in particular; however one generally knows what to expect when one buys Solti so from that point of view it was wonderful.
Interestingly, the disc contains extracts of the actual 200th anniversary mass for Mozart.

Interesting comments Fergus. Before reading your post I wouldnt have imagined Solti being able to do this work any justice if asked.
