I heard some of a bassoon concerto (with the wonderful Sergio Azzolini as soloist, familiar from Naïve's Vivaldi bassoon concerto discs) of this CD
of concertos by Reichenauer and thought I must have it. My searches also threw up this,
concertos by Jiránek, in the same series, also with Azzolini as bassoon soloist, and I got it as well. Both composers worked for Count Morzin, a patron of Vivaldi, and show Vivaldi's influence, but they have their own individuality and their works are delightful, and Azzolini is absolutely wonderful in the works he plays in. Very well worth investigating.
While on the Czech baroque composers, I also got a new CD of choral works by Zelenka
the
Missa Sancti Josephi, and the
Litaniae Xaverianae. The Mass here receives its first recording, and uses the largest forces Zelenka ever used in a Mass. Excellently performed by Ensemble Inégal under Adam Viktora, with soloists including Hana Blažíková. A wonderful large baroque choral work, not like Bach or Telemann: you need to hear it!
