I'm looking for a decent all in one remote. Something thats easy to use, has backlight, doesn't eat batteries (gbe great if it sat on a cradle). I need it to pick up codes automatically, and to learn everything! Some kind of nice touch screen yoke, with nice screens for each thing you're trying to control etc...
Oh yeah, and I don't want to spend a fortune!!

Re: all in one remote controls
i would imagine this isn't quite the answer you're looking for, but i understand that simply walking over to the system and using your finger works wonders. and it's universal too!
can't help you on the back lighting though. glow-in-the-dark paint? hire E.T.?
no fran, no! put down the bat!

Re: all in one remote controls
Well, ya see, thats just the issue. You can't actually get up and use your finger - there's nearly no buttons on the boxes any more!! So you're compeltely dependant on the remote.
RTE have started a digital service (saorview) and I got a box for it. So, now there is another remote!! I already use a universal one from lidl and it works quite well, but is not exactly the most ergonomic thing. However, it does work.....

Ah, many thanks for that James.
Ivor very kindly gave me a lend of a fairly fancy phillips one (pronto??) last night, so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Re: all in one remote controls
they've stopped making them so if you like it you'll likely have to buy second hand
Re: all in one remote controls
I spent a hood bit of time with the pronto last night and got all my remotest set up on it. Further functions are available via a serial connection - but I couldn't use that since my only Windows pc doesn't have a serial port....
Having said that, it works flawlessly....

Re: all in one remote controls
Looks like you are sorted but in case anyone else may be looking down the road, I use a Universal MX-900 Genesis remote control. It was fairly easy to setup but needs a PC for setting up macros etc. It is very solid, has good backlight, nice split between watch & listen and has a good mix of soft & hard buttons. The macros are handy, for example, if I choose DVR, it will power on the TV, power on the DVR, power on the receiver, choose the correct channels on each all from one button push. I got it as a gift and am not sure I would pay the full price for it, if I had to buy one. That said I use it all the time and there is pretty much nothing that I can't do with it that I can with the individual remotes.
