Something for the DIYers to be aware of......

Yesterday I was finishing off a project in the garage. While using my power drill to clear out holes that had become partially blocked when the metalwork was painted with Hammerite, my drill bit snapped. More like shattered as a shower of drill bit fragments flew everywhere - so much so that the two largest bits left looked like bits of a different drill bit! The drill bit was one of the bronze coloured [titanium hardened??] bits that are included in one of those multibit sets most DIY and hardware stores sell. I am not in any way running down these sets, they are a very useful and inexpensive collection of drill bits and indespensible for DIY uses.

For years I have always worn safety glasses when using any power tool especially when drilling. No drill bit fragment hit me, my clothes or the glasses but it could have happened. So I urge you to always wear safety glasses when using a power drill or any power tool.

Good sensible advice Rocker. The trouble is we never seem to the take the time to ensure that the safety first code is adhered to at all times....which reminds me, I need to get a new set of safety glasses and a helmet for bicycling :-)
