Speaking of Buxtehude's Passacaglia, there's a little-known theory that it represents the waxing and waning of the moon over the course of a month. The theme is stated 28 times, divided into 4 groups of 7, each of the 4 with a different key centre. Of course, it may be all horsesh*t, but I always liked the idea. There's a certain "twinkling" aspect to some of the figurations of the last "week" especially.

That is most interesting Simon....I must listen again and pay more attention in the light of this new information on that theory....I will do my best to follow the progression of the music!Diapason wrote:Always lurking!!fergus wrote: I was hoping that you would pick up on that post Simon.

Pagannini – 24 Caprices played by Ilya Kaler....
This is not music to listen to for melodious music pleasure but I do play it now and again to listen to the virtuosic nature of the music and that required of the performer. It must be difficult music to play.

Re: What are you listening to?
Added over 500 LP's to my collection today. :-) Was looking forward to it for the past couple of weeks. Took at least 30mins trying to decide what to listen to first. Finally picked these out at random.
