HQPlayer , anyone using it?
Re: HQPlayer , anyone using it?
Ah, right click - is that all that I was missing, doh!
Did it can't say it made a difference but I'm on Win 7 SP1 which is supposed to be the best sounding Win release so far.
One thing is that PurePlayer can't play >16/44 files (yet?) - it uses SOX to downsample in real time.

Re: HQPlayer , anyone using it?
John, Fran ,
Got Fidelizer running this morning,( I'm running W7 ) it seems to work as specified because I saw a lot of processes were stopped in task manager. Some slight improvement in SQ maybe but hard to say, certainly no harm done.
Checked out Pureplayer and the sound is really good too, as good as HQPlayer I think, the interface is not too user friendly. I just checked one track but was v impressed. It was a 16/44 file I used and it had no difficulty.
Set up my new mic(20 pounds in Maplins Belfast) , did the log sweeps and could see consistent dips in the response at similar positions eg 55Hz, 97Hz , and 187Hz and then using the REW program made Filter Impulse Response files , one for each side and am now running them in HQPlayer as part of the convolution engine system. It will take more time to see how effective it is.

Great, Ken,
Fidelizer may improve as it is develops as I hope Pureplayer does also - certainly it's UI needs some work.
I'm interested in your Digital Room Correction results - keep us posted.

Re: HQPlayer , anyone using it?
Hi John , still playing with the room EQ. Made a new set of filters which smoothed out the major dips and the raised the overall bass a little.I'm using a 15watt KT88 amp which hasn't got great bass so I can clearly hear the effect of this filter. This means I now have some idea what I'm doing and I can gauge the effect of a filter. The REW program is very impressive, it's free too! I haven't yet made my mind up if I want to boost the lower end or not , or simply boost the dips.

Re: HQPlayer , anyone using it?
Hi John, thanks for the link, lot's of interesting stuff there. I'm not fiddling with the top end at all , just the bass response up to 250hz. Pre Hiface/attenuators my set-up had flabbier bass but with the Hiface this is now much cleaner . When I apply EQ it does improve the bottom end. I have reservations about doing this but I suppose if there was a new valve or cable with improved low end response there would be a queue around the block.

Its a hard one to call...... you can really only judge with your ears and see what sounds good. It might suit a lot of people to have a rising treble - it might well contribute a bit of airiness and improve soundstage perception. Soundstage is a very addictive drug!
The graphs are impressive - the way you can integrate the room response is cool with the player. I know I bitched a bit about the price of the HQplayer (and still do!) but in reality, its a lot cheaper than a couple of absorptive bass panels, or probably even a few rugs!
Speaking of PC based SW players, anyone know of an equivalent program for linux?

Re: HQPlayer , anyone using it?
I'm now fully legit to run the HQPlayer having received my licence yesterday by e-mail. I paid it via the bank on March 15 and got the licence on March 31. If you're going to buy it do so well before the free 30 days runs out. Anyhoo the SQ is excellent and I'm using the room-EQ files all the time now. I had a small issue with getting the room-EQ working smoothly and the designer was very helpful with a very prompt response. Overall , highly recommended.
