I downloaded it tonight and have spent the last half hour or so going back and forth between it and foobar playing a 24-96 file from HD-tracks.
The HQplayer certainly sounds better - I think it sounds more resolved and open than foobar. Bear in mind this is using the analog outs of my ESI Julia SC, DS in vista.
mmm. Would be hard not to pay for it alright having gotten used to it.
HQPlayer , anyone using it?
Re: HQPlayer , anyone using it?
Do or do not, there is no try
Re: HQPlayer , anyone using it?
Yes, I have it working also (for some reason , I still have 30 days evaluation on it, shhhh, tell no one)
It definitely is better sounding than Foobar - still don't like it's interface but then Foobar is no great shakes either.
I'll see if I get addicted to it enough that I can't go back to Foobar.
Are you still using it Fran?
Has anybody played around with the settings? What is the dither meant to do & is convolution meant for room correction use? I wonder would they produce a lite version (cheaper) without these functions?

Hi John , I'm still using it and I have paid for the licence key. Of course it could'nt be straightforward, you cannot pay with card or paypal if you have a free e-mail like gmail or hotmail. I had to go the bank , q for a form , fill it in , q again, get it signed by bank manager, anyway I did it. Anyway the sound is well worth it and if you have gov.ie address you can order online.
On room correction/ convolution I have been footering with this for 2 days. The deal is , you get a good microphone (not the Skype one I used) and a program called REW ( http://www.hometheatershack.com/roomeq/ )runs a logarithmic sweep of a range of frequencies through you amp / speakers and reads the result through the mic. You can then see your room response and apply various corrections to take out peaks and troughs. You then export a wav file and use this in the convolution algorithm to modify the signal going to your Hiface. I haven't had a good enough mic yet but I'll be in Maplins Belfast tomorrow and progress will leap forward.
Because it is intriguing and my listening room is mainly glass walled I'm going through with it but I'm more than happy with the uncorrected program.
More info to follow.

Re: HQPlayer , anyone using it?
One thing you can help me with - I have to set the sample rate & everything gets re-sampled to that rate. Can it not just play the original sample rate without resampling? Sorry if all this is in the manual - RTFM :)

John, couldn't give you a straight answer. If you use no filter it doesn't change the sample rate . I've been playing very familiar 96 and 192khz tracks and they sound same/better than Foobar so I am not seeing any degradation. The designer is very responsive to questions and you can also find him on Computer Audiophile as Miska (I think).

HahahaHahaha - you should go and register up with computer audiophile John..........;)
there's another player for you to try out - called pureplayer and while it's a clunky interface the sq is apparently good.... I'll dig up the link later.

Brilliant :) I confess I'm an iPad owner - bought, for me, by my kids so I have to pretend that I love it when they're around. In fact my wife uses it for playing on-line scrabble :)DancingPriest wrote:This one's for you. ;-)Is this not Mac software? Spit, spit something unpleasant in my mouth :)
