Hi all,
As an experiment, I made some stands for quad 57s. These are my own modified take on the stands that have been knocking about the web for many years. They raise the speaker off the floor and also allow you to easily adjust the tilt on the speaker, from original to completely vertical. They are very sturdy in use and are not inclined to topple.
The beauty of these stands in contrast to many others is that it allows you to do all this without having to go "inside" the speaker. You simply take off the 3 feet (these are not used again) and remove the 2 wooden cheeks. The new stands bolt on the side through the holes where the wooden cheeks were and you can refit the wooden cheeks over the new stands, or leave them off as you desire. The rear leg fits exactly into the 4 holes where the middle back leg was.
The stands are made from 18mm baltic birch ply, and come unfinished - you can apply whatever finish you like, from natural wax all the way up to a sprayed coat. This also allows you to choose whatever colour you wish to fit in with your room decor (or swmbo's decor!).
Anyway, I will take some photos of the kit tomorrow evening, but here are some pics of the prototype set on my own quads. These are painted to give you an idea of a simple but clean finish. You can see how I refitted the wooden side cheeks and the adjuster for the rake angle on the back foot. Please note that the rear leg is a very slightly different shape & the adjuster is not as long (I left this one long as I was experimenting) - but you will see that in the new pics of the kit.
Now for the sore bit!! I'm looking for €100 for the first 2 sets to sell - I'm intending these to sell for €120 plus postage if there is demand. Its probably cheapest and easiest if you can meet to pick up.

g) Commercial sellers should approach any of the moderation team in advance of posting. First time commercial posts without moderator contact will be removed.

Will take a pair off your hands Fran, as soon as I get a chance hopefully this week, the gods of babysitting permitting...
The whole place is a complete mess. Can't find anything. Right now I'm eating scrambled eggs, with a comb, from a shoe!

More pics of the kits as promised. Everything is included in the kit except the few tools you will need to do the job.
You will need a plain (flat) screwdriver to take off the old legs and side cheeks. Then a pozidrive one to screw on the new fitting (a cordless screwdriver/drill is very hand here). Also, you need to drill one pilot hole for an extra bracing hole on each side - a small 2-3mm bit is recommended. You can get away without this, but the wood in the quads will be old and well dried out and is likely to split if you don't drill the pilot hole.
I'll be putting together a PDF on how to do it.....

the idea is to get them up - it definitely gives more weight to the bass, plus they actually are easier to house when on stands. The other thing is that I really think that they sound better when vertical rather than sloped back.
They are mostly CNC milled but with a small bit of hand work after.

Yes, - but we'll see how things go with these first. Realistically they would probably be a special order item and I would imagine the price would rocket fairly quick!
