Just arrived in the post:
Rossini's Stabat Mater conducted by Pappano. Can't wait to hear it: all the reviews are ecstatic. Not to mention, more Anna!

Re: Recent Purchases
I have Bylsma's earlier (ADD) recording which originally came out on RCA (I think it's been reissued on Sony as well). In the earlier recording Bylsma plays a Matteo Goffriller cello from 1699 for the first 5 suites and a 5 string violoncello piccolo (South Tyrol, circa 1700) for the sixth suite (which is written for an instrument of this type).fergus wrote:
In the second (DDD) recording the cello is the large Servais Stradivarius of 1701.
I love the recording I have: it alternates with Yo Yo Ma as my favourite. I t would be interesting to compare the two Bylsmas.
Re: Recent Purchases
Actually Ciaran, the picture that I have posted above is not the recording that I have actually bought. I just posted it for convenience as the CD that I have received has a generic picture of a flower on it which I could not find on the internet. I have now checked out the recording and it is the same as the one that you have of his earlier recording. I was not aware that Bylsma had recorded the Suites twice; thank you for that information.Ciaran wrote:I have Bylsma's earlier (ADD) recording which originally came out on RCA (I think it's been reissued on Sony as well). Re: Recent Purchases
I don’t have many recordings with the VPO, so when I saw this set on jpc, and the line up of conductors and even though I already have the Kubelik Mahler 1 from this collection, the rest does interest me,I decided to get it:
This set 4 CDs of Mozart Piano Concertos with Clara Haskil and two more CDs of piano and violin sonatas with Arthur Grumiaux too, if the latter are as good as their Beethoven duos then I am in for a real treat..
This 10 CD collection of Clara Haskil performances including recordings with Geza Anda and is on sale for €10.99 so I bought it, what a bargain:
Another 10 CD set , this time the Concertgebouw Orchestra is directed by Wilhelm Mengelberg and includes a 1939 recording of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, I didn’t have any Mengelberg recordings before this so I am really curious about this set. It cost me €5.99
And finally, a 12 CD of Bach’s piano music, it contains, the English and French Suites, Partitas, the WTF, etc. This is my first recordings of all of these and here it is in a strongly recommend box set of performances by András Schiff:
