Re: Power Conditioning- What have I got?

The general impression I always got from reading around was that these could work very well for source components (ie not much current draw) and where sources were powered from SMPS supplies, they could prevent any noise getting back out from that source. So they could be useful indeed. On the other...

Re: Tube tester.

No-one that I know of unfortunately. I've kept an eye out for one for years, but never saw one at reasonable money.

You can buy kits etc, but I don't know how useful they really are.

Re: Jambo81 on Adverts

I'm fairly certain a friend bought something off this seller - if I am correct then I have visited him, and yes he had a lot of stuff, and was sound to deal with.

As always, best to talk to the fella and go pick up in person.

Nice Klipschorns - would love a good listen to them!

Re: Chinese catridges

I didn't d any measurements.... but I didn't notice any peaky sound like the graph shows. I know mine had copper coils rather than silver but that shouldn't make that kind of difference? I wonder if there was something else contributing to it in those measurements. In some of the pics he has removed...

Re: Chinese catridges

Yep - usually higher loading means more high frequency energy so tends to be a bit brighter in sound.... I think all you can do is try by ear - but only after you are 100% satisfied with cart alignment etc.

Re: Chinese catridges

I think I ended up around 200ohms or thereabouts. BUT I have an update. About a week ago I mishandled the cart and I basically dropped it very hard on the deck, and it skittered down the edge of the platter... HARD. Anyway, long and short of it is that the diamond snapped off jagged, while the canti...

Re: High Fidelity

We're all turning grumpy and stingy!!

I'm still amazed at how often I use bluetooth streaming - its probably the dominant proportion of my listening. My other rule of thumb is that good sound is good sound - the age of the amp etc is almost irrelevant. Sit back and enjoy is the main thing.

Re: Who knows what about thermal wrapping on houses?

If the spray foam installer doesn't use "cards" there is a danger of lack of air circulation between the roof membrane and the insulation, build up of moisture and then rot. Lots of cases in the UK apparently where spray was just sprayed directly on under the membrane. Installers just use ...

Re: Who knows what about thermal wrapping on houses?

We went for a different option here - solid foam fill in the cavity (ie not beads). Made a huge difference, especially with airtightness.

8500 to do the full job here on this house to give you an idea of cost.

Have you spray foam already done on the attic/eaves?
