Best sound from a PS2

I use a Playstation 2 as a transport for CDs. Sound is pretty good, but I'm wondering if I can get better via mp3 on a disc, or even if it's possible to get a higher bit rate playing via DVD? Anyone ever tried anything or at least got links to some free sample tracks I could download to try it?

Thanks for that James. Did a bit of research into it and not sure if it's worth the hassle. You have to mod it first etc…
