Opinions sought on Solti/CSO Beethoven recordings.

Post by Seán »

The Solti/CSO Beethoven Symphony and the Piano Concerto cycles (with Ashkenazy) are available at a reasonable price on amazon.fr. I am wondering if any of you are familiar with any of these recordings and if so what do you think of them?

I am reluctant to pose this questoon on CMG.

I've got Symphonies 6 and 8 and I like the disc a lot. I studied 8 for the LC back in the day, and this seems a very good reading to me. Everything sounds just right. Put it this way, I'd be tempted to buy this set myself. Got a link?

Caveat: I'm not a massive fan of Beethoven Symphonies, and this is the only such disc I possess at the moment.

I adore all of Beethoven's music particularly his symphonic output, I have ten complete cycles and a few other recordings too.

An interesting one Seán....I have nothing at all of Beethoven by Solti so I cannot advise you at all on that one.

I was wondering about that, I'll find out.

It's over to CMG for a few anti-Solti rants so.

I think he might have. The disc I have is from the digital era, and I suspect is from this set:
