Believe it or not I actually have that album (the multi CD box version) staring at me from the hi fi system by the bay window! Pleading with me to actually play the bloody thing. Sadly it’s a 99.9 % Vinyl playback room 🙄

Beautiful turntable by the way…..

Absolutely no point in waxing lyrically about this one. No one listens anyway.
So if perchance you are listening then here’s an opportunity to prove it. Name the album, band and the strange story behind the sleeve. No cheating. Please 🙏

I’d say you are Shane 😊 I suppose I’ll have to put you out of your misery. Then again maybe not. Tell you what I’ll drop clue or two next post then maybe, just maybe, you’ll get it in one 😊

The painting is by Thomas Wilmer Dewing. It’s also called The White Birch.

Still intrigued 😊

Not familiar with them Dermot but will investigate - sound interesting in a Low kind of way (that's a good thing by the way) Thanks.

To hear that track on a decent hi fi system is something else. The whole album too. I’ve Never heard a guitar sound so heavy and beautiful at the same time. It’s all about timing too. Soft/Loud if you will.

Anyway here’s the story about the ‘green’ cover album:

After the success of Codeine's Frigid Stars LP, the trio of Stephen Immerwahr, John Engle, and Chris Brokaw booked time at Harold Dessau Recording in June 1992 to track an eight-song sophomore album. A few days and a couple of unexplainable high-pitched frequencies later, the record was scrapped, shelved, and forgotten about. Brokaw left the band shortly after, and these songs were re-tracked in various iterations for Codeine's final LP. On its 30th anniversary, Numero unearthed these recordings, restoring the original White Birch to the band's exacting standards (using the original choice of sleeve) with producer Mike McMackin. A slowcore masterpiece hidden in plain sight.
