Do not necessary have to agree on all, but perhaps someone will find this list useful.

I was thinking about creating some sort of list of standard production music/albums, but those with attention to audio quality divided by genres .
Not super duper expensive K2 HD or XRCD, but normal releases by common record labels.
Those Super Audiophile releases very often in my opinion do sound wrong, and sometime I come across albums from non audiophile labels that sound just right.

It s bit tricky to sieve one.

Maciej

I'd certainly agree with some of those, but some don't strike me as audiophile albums at all. Joni Mitchell's Blue, for example, is a great album, wonderful music, but MILES away from audiophile.

Still, I always enjoy these lists. Did we used to have one ourselves on a previous version of the forum back in the early days? Might be fun to do that again, list some great-sounding albums of any genre.

I would have been nicely surprised if Nick Cave new album is better quality than anything else that he recorded in the past, except The Birthday Party times of course 😉

Quality of recordings of the Bad Seeds actually made me stop to listen them. I could not understand how such a beautiful, rich in harmonics, sensual voices music can be that poorly recorded.
I have imagined how many more fans would Nick Cave gained if he'd paid better attention to audiophillia.

I do not know all the albums listed here, some as those are to far from what I like or used to like in the past. However since I pay greater attention to the fidelity or quality of recording I am keen to test.

I should come up some time soon with the list of what I think are good quality standard albums (or perhaps add the audiophile recording list too as separate)

Maybe someone can dig out that old version that you are referring to....

Great to see Aja on the list. Got me a mint copy of it on Cisco label a couple of years ago at a decent price and it sounds unbelievable. It's such a well produced album, and reveals more on every spin.

Would love to have seen that list reflect some vinyl pressings.
I've currently ordered some of the Tone Poet pressings off the Blue Note site https://store.bluenote.com/ (30% off), and looking forward to listening to them. Can't justify the spend on Music Matters, and have read some hit and miss reviews of their pressings.

I can't find the thread now, but if you're REALLY bored, you could wade through some of these threads from back in the day:

Here's a good list from one of the meets:

Thanks so much.

I did not realize there was a predecessor of Tir Na HiFi forum. Back to 2004!
I certainly agree on Lee Rittenouer and few others that I know.

I should add good few CD's (I mainly listen to this format) soon.

This is my 'go to' copy at this stage https://www.discogs.com/Joni-Mitchell-B ... se/2571066. It is the 2007 remaster by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman pressed at RTI and released by Rhino in 2007, for the U.S./Canada market only. I have not heard 'Blue' sound this good in any version and I have heard and compared it to a U.K.original. I think the 2007 reissue is far superior. I have never heard a U.S. original, though. I liked the 2007 reissue so much that I bought two copies and it is probably the closest that this recording ever comes to audiophile quality. Unfortunately, the version that is currently available on this side of the world is a German pressed issue from a digital source. I believe the 2007 Rhino reissue is still available but it has to be imported from the U.S.A, with all the inconvenience that accompanies that!
