Hi all,

I have a quadraspire turntable shelf and I am thinking of installing it. (I have it quite a while and its an old model). Here is a picture ..

https://www.needledoctor.com/Quadrasp ... l-Shelf

I have a few questions ..

a) I dont like the colour of the shelf so I want to replace it. What is the best material to use (mdf, plywood etc)?

b) Can I get shorter spikes and if so where (the current version lifts the shelf a few inches off the rods coming out of the wall)?

c) What height should I have between the floor and the record surface (for most convienience in cueing etc)?

Thanks

James

Hi James,

I use their bamboo version. It’s a thing of beauty and works superbly. The shelf itself is a precision piece, very light and incredibly strong with complicated profiling underneath. I would be slow to try and make one from ply or mdf. Maybe spray and lacquer yours or contact Quadraspire for a different one.

There is a range of fittings available. Have a look here... https://quadraspire.co.uk/custom.html

My shelf is mounted such that the record surface is just below my chest level - too low for Devon Toner. Too high for Danny DeVito.

Hope this helps.

hi i would have a black quadraspire q4 shelf -the arcrylic quadraspire q4 shelf which has an oval shaped hole is recognised as being the best for sprung suspension record player. higher again is the musicworks shelf for q4 rack and turntable shelf that is like shape of guitar body with arcrylic feet to fit holes in metal frame -maybe the easiest option would be a bit of d.i.y. on your shelf or if your shelf is rosewood i can do a straight swap for black

Thanks for the suggestions. I may try to make a new shelf from a solid wood chopping board. I have been in contact with Quadraspire and shorter spikes are available. I won't do anything until after Christmas.
